Improve your safety during Car Safety Week

Snow and ice makes driving a little more treacherous than normal.

January has already been quite a testing time for drivers. Harsh frosts, heavy rainfall, snow and ice have made all driving a little more treacherous than normal.

It should come as no surprise then that Car Safety Week will run from 26th January to 1st February. The campaign has been designed to raise awareness about the safety solutions available to drivers in order to protect you and your car.

When it comes to tyres, as the only part of your car in contact with the road surface, it’s essential that you ensure these are in a safe and legal condition i.e. properly inflated and with sufficient tread depth. AlignMyCar is a proud member of TyreSafe and you can find lots of information about tyre safety on their site, including why you should consider fitting winter tyres.

However, no matter what tyres you have fitted to your car, it’s important that these are aligned properly in order to maximise your safety and comfort as well as to minimise any unnecessary running costs.

At the moment, many roads are in particularly poor condition with potholes a frequent occurrence. Add to that the issue of ice and frost which can lead to skidding and hitting kerbs, it’s not uncommon for your car’s steering and suspension geometry to suffer damage or become misaligned.

When your wheels are misaligned, not only will tyres wear out quickly and irregularly, but your safety can also be compromised. To avoid these issues, we normally recommend checking your car’s alignment at least once a year or every 12-15,000 miles. Every time you have your tyres replaced you should also check your alignment.

So, if you’ve not had your alignment checked for a while, then why not take advantage of Car Safety Week and visit your nearest AlignMyCar centre where they can check that your car’s geometry is set up as the vehicle manufacturer specified? Not only will you receive documentary proof that the car has been restored to its original setting but you’ll also have peace of mind that your journey is as safe as it can be.
